Hello, guys!
I hope you’re all doing well.
Today’s post was inspired by a conversation I had with Glory of Glory’s Beauty when I was trying to make a choice of foundation, especially considering how my face seems to get oily and wear really quickly these days.
It is extremely hot here in Lagos, with temperatures going as high as 33 degrees.
I hope these tips help your makeup last longer, especially if you live in a tropical country.
1. Skin Prep
This is an integral aspect of makeup prep. Hydration is key, even for oily skin. When your skin is dehydrated, it tries to compensate by producing more oil. One of the best ways to keep your face matte is to carry out a good hydrating skincare routine. However, do not pile on too many products to prevent your makeup from creasing.
2. Prime
You know this already. A good primer ensures your makeup stays in place because it creates a surface for makeup to adhere to.
I find this to be an equally effective way of staying matte. Be careful though. Apply just a light layer of powder to prevent creating a caked face look.
4. Blot after foundation
I should hashtag this #Glorytaughtme. She suggested I blot my face with tissue or blotting paper after applying foundation to remove any shine before setting it with powder.
You need to set your makeup in this weather with powder to keep it in place.
6. Less is more
DO NOT cake on the products. Use as little as possible and blend, blend, blend. Nothing is less pretty than cake face with creasing.
7. Blot
Don’t be ashamed to blot when your face looks oily. I use the Beauty Formulas blotting sheets to take away the shine.

Would you recommend that smashbox primer to anyone with dry to normal skin? Lovely post!

Hi! Yes, I would. It is a hydrating primer and not very mattifying.
Thank you very much…

The only thing on this list i have never tried is powder before foundation and blotting afterwards…i live in Barbados so i totally understand the need to stay as oil free as long as possible.

It’s super hot in Lagos too. The temperature goes as high as 33 degrees in the afternoons so I understand the struggle.
I hope this post helps! 😘

The powder before foundation tip works really well!! The heat in Lagos has caused me to abandon makeup for now unless it is absolutely necessary. I’ll buy blotting sheets for use on the days I wear makeup. Nice post!!

Thank you darling! I don’t like that the powder can make your makeup cake up though. Blotting sheets can be a lifesaver.

I’ve been dying to try The ordinary cosmetics products. And I’m eyeing the primer. But I’m not sure it’s good for oily skin or not. What do you think?

Their products are actually good…I think it’s better suited for dry to combination skin.

So it’s no go for oily skin then? 😔 any recommendation from this brand for oily?

There’s the hylamide matte 12 primer from Deciem, same brand that makes the Ordinary. I’ve heard great things about it. I’m thinking of trying it out. I’ll definitely review it when I do. You can try that one.
